Captain America: Brave New World: What We Know About The Marvel Movie So Far
"I could do this all day."
Captain America: Brave New World is one of the many upcoming Marvel movies on the docket, and it’s been highly anticipated by fans. The fourth installment in the star-spangled franchise won’t see Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers in the titular role, of course. That’s because, following the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson is Cap. Fans have been itching for details on the forthcoming superhero film since it was announced. And, while there are still some secrets that have yet to be revealed, there’s a lot of information that we know at this point.
Marvel Studios formally announced the film at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, where fans roared with excitement. Early on, the film was known as Captain America: New World Order, though the name change was confirmed in the summer of 2023, with Anthony Mackie dropping the mic on that. The road for the film has been a bit bumpy, as Cap 4 has gone through changes by way of reshoots. But rest assured that it is on track to see the light of day as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Five. So, without further ado, let’s discuss what we know about Brave New World’s cast, release date and more.
What Is Captain America Brave New World's Release Date?
The latest chapter in the Captain America saga is set to open in theaters on February 14, 2025 as part of the 2025 movie schedule.
Originally, during SDCC 2022, Kevin Feige – the president of Marvel Studios – confirmed that the movie would open in theaters inMay 2024. Of course, that didn’t prove to be the case. By the summer of 2023, Disney shuffled a plethora of dates and, as a result, Brave New World was pushed back to July 2024. The film’s current release date was ultimately announced in November 2023, as multiple Marvel movies were delayed following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Does Captain America: Brave New World Have A Trailer
A teaser trailer for Captain America: Brave New World is out in the wild and, while it's certainly a "teaser," it does hint at some major developments in the MCU flick. There are plenty of moments showing Sam Wilson in action, and the final shot teases a certain red monster comic book fans are likely familiar with.
The Captain America: Brave New World Cast
The upcoming film is set to feature an ensemble cast, which is typically the case with most MCU-set productions. Brave New World’s roster of talent will be composed of franchise veterans as well as a few newcomers.
Anthony Mackie As Sam Wilson/Captain America
By the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it was made incredibly clear that Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson would be the MCU’s new Sentinel of Liberty. Brave New World will see him continue his journey as the do-gooder with the red, white and blue shield. Mackie also stressed how his version of Cap differs from Chris Evans’, because Sam doesn’t have the super soldier serum running through his veins. That makes Wilson more vulnerable – and a lot more relatable.

Danny Ramirez As Joaquin Torres/The Falcon
Cap will also have a new wingman in this movie by the name of Joaquin Torres, who was introduced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Danny Ramirez will reprise his role as the character and will take on the mantle of the Falcon.
Carl Lumbly As Isaiah Bradley
Another character introduced in the aforementioned limited series was Carl Lumbly’s Isaiah Bradley, a Black Korean War veteran, who was subjected to super soldier experiments. The show ended with Sam and Isaiah finding mutual ground though, as EW reported, early footage from CinemaCon showed Bradley attacking the President of the United States alongside other super soldiers after being triggered by music.
Shira Haas As Ruth/Sabra
Rising actress Shira Haas is set to take on the role of U.S. government agent Sabra, a classic comics character. A mutant and one of the few Israeli characters in the Marvel pantheon, the character’s inclusion in the upcoming MCU film stoked up controversy in regard to the Israel-Palestine conflict. As reported by Variety, Marvel promised to take a fresh and respectable approach to the character.
Liv Tyler As Dr. Betty Ross
A long-absent MCU character that’s returning for this film is none other than Dr. Betty Ross, who last appeared in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. The role will once again be played by Liv Tyler and, as for how Betty fits into the story, that remains to be seen.
Tim Blake Nelson As Samuel Sterns/The Leader
Another Incredible Hulk character returning to the fold is Tim Blake Nelson’s Samuel Sterns a.k.a. The Leader. While plot details are scarce, it’s likely that Sterns will take on a villainous role. For his part, Nelson says he’s “happy” with how the villain is depicted in the film and believes he’ll align with his comic book roots.
Harrison Ford As President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross
“Thunderbolt” Ross is returning for Brave New World though, due to the death of William Hurt, the role has been recast. Harrison Ford is stepping into the role of the former anti-superhuman politician, who’s now President of the United States. Based on early footage, Ross wants Sam Wilson to rebuild the Avengers. Also, in what's a stunning X-Men and Eternals connection, Ross will confirm that the government has discovered adamantium, thanks to the Celestial sticking out of the ocean. On top of that, it’s rumored that Ross will become the Red Hulk.
Giancarlo Esposito And More Have Roles In The Film
As part of reshoots, Giancarlo Esposito – who long teased his involvement in a Marvel project – was cast in a mystery role. Esposito's character was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, where he was confirmed to play Seth Voelker a.k.a. Sidewinder -- the head of the Serpent Society. Also cast in undisclosed roles are Xosha Roquemore, Rosa Salazar and WWE vet Seth Rollins.
Captain America: Brave New World Will See Sam Wilson Facing A New Threat
Exact plot details on the movie are scarce at this point, though the title suggests that Sam Wilson will be facing a powerful force as some kind that could impact the world (at least in the MCU). And, as previously mentioned, Sam will also be tasked with reforming Earth’s Mightiest heroes.
Captain America: Brave New World Is Directed By Julius Onah
The upcoming Captain America sequel is directed by Julius Onah, whose past credits include The Cloverfield Paradox, Luce and The Girl Is in Trouble. Brave New World will mark Onah’s first foray into the superhero genre, so the fact that Marvel would hire him speaks to their faith in his abilities. Based on his past work, I’d imagine that he’ll bring something unique to the MCU.
Factoring in what we know about Captain America: Brave New World thus far, it seems like it could be a defining chapter in the MCU. Sam Wilson – and Anthony Mackie, by extension – have some big shoes to fill. However, I’m confident that Sam’s latest adventure will be an entertaining and insightful piece of the Multiverse Saga. We’ll see how it all shakes out on February 14, 2025.
